What an Aircraft Ceramic Coating Does for Your Paint
Paint on an aircraft faces more than paint on a car: constant sun on the ramp, exhaust soot, fuel and oil, and salt air near the coast. A ceramic coating gives it a durable layer of defense.
A deep, lasting gloss
The coating amplifies the shine of freshly polished paint and keeps it looking that way long after a wax would have faded.
Faster, easier washes
Soot, bugs and grime struggle to bond to the slick surface, so each wash takes less time and less effort.
Protection from sun and chemicals
It helps guard against UV fading, oxidation, de-icing fluid, bird droppings and acid rain.
A barrier against salt air
For aircraft based near the coast, it helps keep salt film from settling into the paint between washes.
Aircraft Wax vs. Ceramic Coating
Wax still has its place, but if you want protection that lasts, here's how the two compare.
How it protects
WaxSits on top of the paint as a soft, temporary layer.
Ceramic coatingBonds to the paint and metal, forming a hard, slick protective layer.
How long it lasts
WaxWears away with washing and weather, often within a few months.
Ceramic coatingLasts for years with regular maintenance washes, and can't be washed off like wax.
Sun and chemicals
WaxOffers limited UV protection and breaks down under harsh cleaners.
Ceramic coatingResists UV, solvents and contaminants such as de-icing fluid and bird droppings.
Washing
WaxDirt and exhaust soot cling to the surface.
Ceramic coatingGrime releases easily, so every wash is quicker and gentler.

How We Apply a Ceramic Coating at Your Hangar
A coating seals in whatever is underneath it, so the preparation matters as much as the coating itself. Every application includes full paint prep.
Inspect
We assess the paint's condition and note any oxidation, swirl marks or chips before we start.
Wash and degrease
A thorough dry wash removes dirt, exhaust soot and belly oil from every panel.
Decontaminate
We remove bonded contaminants the wash leaves behind, so the surface is truly clean.
Polish
Machine polishing removes oxidation and surface imperfections to restore a smooth, glossy finish.
Coat
After a final prep wipe, we apply System X panel by panel and let it cure.
Final inspection
We inspect every panel under good light and send you before-and-after photos.
Is a Ceramic Coating Right for Your Aircraft?
We'd rather tell you upfront than sell you something you don't need.
A great fit if your aircraft
- Is based near the coast, at airports such as Long Beach, John Wayne, Torrance or Compton
- Sits outside on a tie-down or ramp
- Has fresh paint, or paint we can polish back to a strong finish
- Carries passengers or clients who notice appearance
- Flies often enough that frequent washing is a chore
Not the right fix if
- The paint is peeling, cracking or failing. A coating can't repair it, so a repaint comes first
- The aircraft was just painted. The paint must fully cure before it can be coated

Aircraft Ceramic Coating FAQ
How long does an aircraft ceramic coating last?
With regular maintenance washes, a System X coating protects for years. How long depends on how often you fly, where the aircraft is parked and how it's cared for, and we'll recommend a wash schedule to match.
Does my aircraft need polishing before it's coated?
If the paint shows oxidation or swirl marks, yes. The coating locks in whatever finish is underneath, so we polish first. Full paint prep is included with every coating.
Can you coat a newly painted aircraft?
Yes, once the paint has fully cured. Ask your paint shop when it's ready, and we'll schedule the coating for then.
Can you apply it at my hangar or tie-down?
Yes. We're fully mobile and apply the coating where your aircraft is parked, at any of our eight airports.
How much does an aircraft ceramic coating cost?
It depends on the aircraft's size and the paint's condition. Text a photo and your tail number to (714) 886-9514 for your Wheels-Up Quote within 2 office hours, or $50 off your detail.
What if I'm not satisfied with the finish?
Notify us within 7 days, and we'll return to correct it at no charge.
